Sculpture Woods - Studio Grounds of Ann Morris

Eighteen years of work by bronze sculptor Ann Morris is showcased in a handsome new large-format book published in May 2008 by the Museum of Northwest Art.

Sculpture Woods: Studio Grounds of Ann Morris documents, in 137 color photographs and the artist's own words, a body of work ranging from larger-than-life mythic figures to exquisitely delicate bronze renderings of bones and the vessels which contain them on their journey through time.  The 16 large works, emphasizing the relationship between nature and the human spirit, have been photographed in the lush outdoor museum that inspired them:  the 15-acre grounds that surround Morris's studio on Lummi Island, Washington.  The smaller, more recent pieces have grown out of the artist's lifelong fascination with bones and plant forms.  Some are displayed in the intimate gallery adjacent to the sculptor's studio; others are in a number of galleries in the Northwest and in private collections across the country.

In addition to Morris's own words about her work-shaping, in bronze, the connections between our past and our destiny-the book also includes critical essays by curators and fine arts writers Ted Lindberg (Vancouver Art Gallery) and Jake Seniuk (Port Angeles Fine Arts Center).  Robert Vinnedge, who captured Morris's art in both its outdoor and indoor settings, is a veteran sculpture photographer whose work appears widely in exhibits and publications.

Sculpture Woods: Studio Grounds of Ann Morris (10" x 12" 144pp, hardcover) can be purchased $37.94 (includes Washington state sales tax), plus $5.00 shipping (U.S. postage book rate).
